General Etiquette

  • Religion is a tricky topic but genuine interest about rituals and customs are welcome.

Money Matters

  • Currency in India – INR – Indian rupee. It is available in denominations Rs 10, 20,50,100,200,500,2000.
  • One rupee is equal to 100 paisa and there are coins of the following denominations – Rupee 1, 2, 5, & 10.
  • Banks and ATM are located on the campus itself and there are many all around the Pune city.
  • You can change most major foreign currencies and brands of traveler’s cheques – but you’ll widen your options and save yourself hassles if you stick to US dollars and either Thomas Cook or American Express travelers cheques
  • Debit and credit cards are accepted at several big establishments.(extra charges as applicable)
  • You can send and receive money through Western Union and Money gram.
  • If your study period is more than 6 months it is advisable to open a Saving Bank account in the Indian Bank within the Institute Campus.

Indian Sim Card

There are many telecom service providers namely Reliance, Airtel, Idea, Vodaphone, Aircel etc., Voda phone, Idea, Airtel has good network coverage.

Bank Account

The Student can open a saving account in SBI,ICICI,HDFC,HSBC which are international bank preferably

Driving Licence

If the International Student wishes to drive any kind of motor vehicle in India you need to obtain a driving license. The minimum age for driving in India is 16 for motorcycle of 50cc or less and 18 for all other vehicles. First you have to obtain Learner license from the RTO office in Pune. The permanent driving license is issued within three months after the learner license and it will be valid until your residence permit expire
